How to Use 48MP Resolution on iPhone 15 Series

The iPhone 15 series features a new 48MP primary sensor, a significant upgrade over the previous 12MP sensor. In addition to the default 24MP resolution, there is an option to capture photos in full 48MP resolution for sharper and more detailed images.

Prerequisites:

  • iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • 48MP photos are significantly larger in size, around 100MB per photo.

  • HEIF 48MP mode clicks photos in 48MP under 5MB but may have compatibility issues.

How to Enable 48MP Mode:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Navigate to Camera > Formats.

  3. Toggle on ProRAW & Resolution Control (iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus only).

  4. Choose HEIF (iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max) or ProRAW Max (iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max).

  5. Open the Camera app and check for the HEIF Max or RAW Max option in the top right corner.

  6. Tap the shutter button to capture photos in 48MP resolution.
